Need a design for your next logo, banner campaign or website? Easy. Check out Crowdspring.com - a global marketplace for logo, business card, graphic and website design.
Here's how it works.
- You post your creative project and set a price for what you're willing to pay.
- Crowdspring.com sends it out to their network of over 12000 creatives around the world.
- And then...the ideas start flowing in. Creatives will submit actual designs for your projects (on average about 70, you get your money back if there are less than 25 options) and then you choose the one you like.
- That designer wins the job and receives whatever funds you allocated to the project.
This idea has been around for some time now, but when it comes to actual design needs, nobody does it better than Crowdspring.com. Check them out for your next creative project.
Why it works.
You are getting a variety of choices. If you hire a local designer who doesn't come up with something you like, you pay anyways.
Fast. Projects can be completed anywhere from a few days to a month. You're not waiting for your designer to get done with his last project anymore.
What to watch out for.
Communication. You need to give the community clear direction on what you need. Read up on how to write a good creative brief and be very clear about your expectations. Communication can be a challenge and since the design community is pitching work for free, it's only fair to be as clear as possible.

Thanks so much for writing about crowdSPRING and for your kind words. You are absolutely right about good communication. In fact, the designers who work on crowdSPRING (nearly 13,000 now, from 130+ countries) have put together a nice guide to help buyers of creative services - and you'll notice that communication is a key piece of advice: http://www.crowdspring.com/...ely_manage_design_projects

Hi Mario,
I am a "creative" on crowdSPRING. (That's their word for designer.) It's great that you are plugging crowdSPRING and giving that very important bit of advice - It's all about communication. If there is anyone out there thinking of posting a project... the way to success is to stay active in the process. Many of the best creatives will look to see if you are providing feedback before they will consider participating in your design project.
Thanks!

Audree, thank you for participating in the conversation. I hope I didn't offend you by using the word designer. Creative is more fitting since you folks do quite a bit of conceptual work as well. I have gotten a few emails about this - any guide on how potential projects should be priced when being placed into the Crowdspring universe? Are there any official/unofficial guidelines?
