Social Media Marketing Is About Building Credibility

social_media_credibility"Let your game speak." Pulled from an Air Jordan ad—hardly an example of Scrappy Marketing—the phrase has applications in the world of marketing through social media.

As most professionals know, we live in an industry that now has an unprecedented number of ways to broadcast content and marketing material. With all these opportunities, it's important to put out the right message, not bombard the online community with a self-centered approach revolving only around your products and ideas. It's important to have faith and confidence in your product, using online tools like blogs and Twitter to build credibility, not shout from the rooftops begging others to give you a shot.

I've spent the past couple of days beginning to build the Scrappy Marketing Twitter feed and during the process I've come across some poorly run feeds and even worse individual Tweets. We've gone a different route, attempting to building the feed into a resource for the best scrappy marketing practices, whether they're coming from us or not. Out-teaching potential clients and consumers has always been at the root of Scrappy of Marketing.

It's important to do the same on blogs. One should never use a blog as a medium to constantly boast (or beg) about your own products and services. Blogs are best used as a publication and forum to become a thought leader on a subject. This is one of the things we preach most in my work at LexBlog. Lawyers don't need to be posting constantly asking whether or not someone needs a personal injury lawyer. If an attorney writes quality content, voicing his or her opinion on certain cases and trends they will be seen as an expert on their subject. So when the time comes and someone does need an attorney, where do you think they will go?

The same applies for other industries. Work hard, be scrappy, hustle. When appropriate, let your game speak.
