I have been spending the holidays back in my home country of Germany. It has been great to see the family and many of my good friends. Last night I went to a hockey game (go Iserlohn) and was reminded how much it's simple authentic experiences that truly matter - especially in marketing.
Over the years, I have worked on many different professional sports and entertainment accounts. One question that constantly gets asked is how one can attract more families. I have seen all sorts of ideas. Family packages, bobblehead giveaways, halftime games or a chance to maybe meet your favorite player.
Last night at the hockey game, I was reminded how simple marketing can and should be. At the end of the game, all the kids were allowed to line up around the ice rink and high-five their favorite players as they were coming out one more time to cool down. A simple idea that costs nothing but seems much more authentic and appealing than any bobblehead could ever be. If I was a kid (or a rabid fan for that matter), this would be a memorable experience that I would look forward to again and again.
Have you thought of simple authentic experiences that your business could implement to bring people into the door and keep them coming back?
